Character and Citizenship Education (CCE) has always been at the heart of our education. Fuhua Secondary School recognises the importance of developing the character of our students; particularly so in a rapidly changing environment, shifting social norms and morals. Our students will also need to develop a sense of belonging to the nation and cultivate values to help them to become responsible citizens.
Our school CCE’s framework is aligned to the school mission and goals which is to nurture the whole Fuhuanite, so as to bring out the best in OUR Fuhuanites who are Outstanding, Upstanding and Ready for the Future. Our school values Respect, Integrity, Service & Excellence (RISE) serve as a moral compass to guide students’ actions and behaviours as well as in defining their attitude. The framework is also girded by Thomas Lickona’s Theory of Character Education (Moral knowing, moral feeling and moral doing). We adopt a whole school approach and aim to actualise through the 5-P Implementation which is clarity of Purpose, focus on Pupil, creating a holistic ExPerience, providing Professional Development Support and Partnerships – Engaging Home and Community.
In Fuhua, character development is currently delivered across the formal curriculum (CCE Lessons) and co-curriculum, through programmes led and driven by multiple agencies such as Character & Citizenship Education, Student Conduct & Discipline, CCA, Student Guidance & Family Engagement.
We deliver the programmes using a tiered approach:
Foundation Programme aims to inculcate core values and skills through multiple platforms at school-wide level including Instructional Programmes, CCE lessons, FT periods, National Education, Values-in-Action, Sexuality Education, Education and Career Guidance Programme and other level-based programmes.
- Experiential Programme aims to inculcate core values and skills through hands-on learning opportunities such as CCA, VIA, local and overseas Character for L!fe Camps. These platforms allow the students to take ownership of their own learning and structure and time are provided for them to do reflection for meaningful learning and future improvement so as to enable them to better internalise the values and skills.
