Pesta Pantun and Nadi Sastera 2019
Pulau Pandan jauh ke tengah
Gunung Daik bercabang tiga
Hancur badan dikandung tanah
Budi yang baik dikenang jua
sound familiar? This excerpt from Di Tanjong Katong is actually called a
pantun. A pantun is a form of Malay poetry. Pantuns usually have 4 lines and
consist of a unique rhyming scheme. While it is used to enliven the atmosphere
of many Malay events, creating one can be quite a daunting task. Thankfully,
there is the annual Pesta Pantun that not only introduces Fuhuanites to the
beautiful literary world of Pantun but also challenges them to write one
creatively. Held on 11 March, 12 students competed against one another to
create interesting and memorable pantuns that convey the messages of love, friendship
and even some useful advice!
The Secondary 1s were also introduced to the world of drama under the guidance of Ms Aqilah and Ms Hafizah. Through the Nadi Sastera programme, the students learnt how to appreciate drama text and even got the opportunity to stage a short play in front of their peers.
It was truly a fun week and our Fuhuanites enjoyed the journey into Malay literature. Congratulations to all winners and bravo to all who bravely accepted the challenges!
